- It involves a lot of different skills.  The skills you need really depends upon the type of home improvement you are doing.  If you are adding a deck to your home then you will need carpentry skills and basic building skills.  If you are putting in a new toilet then you will need plumbing skills.  If you are laying tile then you will need experience and skills in laying tile.
- These skills are something you can learn.  You do not have to have extensive training in most home improvement skills.  In fact, you can often learn by doing or by watching someone else do it.
- It is actually a hobby for many people.


Reasons for Improving your Home

There are many motivations for doing improvements to your home.  People often find themselves doing them for one of the following reasons:

- Repair your home.  Adding a new furnace when the old one breaks down is an example of this.
- Increase the value of your home.  When you put work into your home and make improvements the value of your home goes up and you earn more equity in your home.
- Make your home more comfortable or to look better.  Painting walls, adding a swimming pool and updating appliances are all examples of this.  

You do not have to be a master carpenter to do home improvement.  You can find plenty of resources to teach them how to do the home improvement they desire.  Home improvement can be a fun hobby or simply something you can do to improve their greatest asset.
